Power Shutdown in Tamil Nadu Tomorrow (5 October 2026)
Monday morning is rushed enough already, and tomorrow some of us will have to deal with no current as well. TNPDCL has announced planned power cuts for 5 October in 13 substation areas across Tamil Nadu.
Nothing to panic about, it’s maintenance work. Most areas will be without power from 9 AM to 2 PM. A few go on till 4 PM, and one area has to wait till 5 PM. Below is the full list, region by region, with the areas and timings, so you can find your place and plan your day.
Timings at a glance
| Power back by | Number of substations | Which ones |
|---|---|---|
| 2 PM | 9 | Thanganagar, Balakrishnampatty, Puthunatham, Mangalamedu, Kalanivasal, Nannai, Devanurpudur, Veerapandi, Mettupalayam |
| 4 PM | 3 | Keeramangalam, Avanathankkottai, MG Pudur |
| 5 PM | 1 | Ramiyanahally |
Everything starts at 9 AM, except Avanathankkottai, which starts at 10. So if you live in a 2 PM area, you get your afternoon back. If you’re in a 4 PM or 5 PM area, you’re basically without current for the whole working day.
Trichy side
Three substations around Trichy are on the list, all for monthly maintenance. Most of these are villages and small towns on the outskirts, so the effect will be felt by families and small shops more than big offices.
| Substation | Areas affected | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Thanganagar 110/33-22-11 KV | Erakudy, Kombai, S.M. Puthur, Palakkadu, Batharpettai, Thirunavalur, Keelapatty, Puthupatty, Aalathudaiyanpatty, Vadakupatty, Alagapuri, Okkarai | 9 AM to 2 PM |
| Balakrishnampatty 33/11 KV | S.N. Puthur, K. Puthur, V.A. Samuthiram, Kottaipalayam, P. Mettur, Balakrishnapatty | 9 AM to 2 PM |
| Puthunatham 110/11 KV | Kavalkaranpatty, Sukampatty, Karumalai, Pannankombu, Sathuvapuram, Adaiyapatty, Kambulipatty, Chinnakavudampatty, Kulathuranpatty, Balakattupatty, Amaiyapuram | 9 AM to 2 PM |
Since it’s a school day, pack the lunch boxes and iron the uniforms tonight. Mornings are always tight, and nobody wants to look for a torch at 8 AM.
Pudukkottai
Two substations here, and both are marked for the entire local area. That means the whole town or village, not just a street or two.
| Substation | Areas affected | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Keeramangalam | Keeramangalam, entire area | 9 AM to 4 PM |
| Avanathankkottai 33 KV | Avanathankkottai, entire area | 10 AM to 4 PM |
Six or seven hours is a long time. If you run a shop, a flour mill or a small workshop here, it’s worth telling your regular customers today itself. Elders who depend on a fan or a BP machine at home might also need someone to check on them.
Coimbatore side
Two substations from the Coimbatore side are on the list, and their timings are quite different.
| Substation | Areas affected | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| MG Pudur 110/11 KV | Part of Sulur, Industrial area, part of Neelambur, Lakshmi Nagar, Kulathur | 9 AM to 4 PM |
| Devanurpudur 110/22 KV | Devanurpudur, Sellampalayam, Karattur, Ravanapuram, Aandyur, Pandiyankaradu, Earisanampatti, Vallakundapuran, S. Nallur, Arthanaripalayam, Pungamuthur, Valayapalayam, Deepalapatty | 9 AM to 2 PM |
The MG Pudur list mentions the industrial area, so people working in the small units around Sulur and Neelambur should speak to their supervisor tonight. Seven hours of no power can wipe out most of a shift.
The longest cut of the day: Ramiyanahally
Only one substation goes all the way till 5 PM, and that’s Ramiyanahally.
| Substation | Areas affected | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Ramiyanahally 110/33-11 KV | Ramiyanahally, Sinthalpadi, Pasuvabapuram, Kaveripuram, Thenkaraikottai, Boothanatham | 9 AM to 5 PM |
Eight hours without current is no small thing. If you live here, fill the water tank tonight, not tomorrow morning. Charge your phone and power bank before you sleep. If you work from home, it may be easier to spend the day at a relative’s place or a café that has a generator.
Other areas
These four are all 9 AM to 2 PM. They’re spread across different parts of the state, so check your village name carefully.
| Substation | Areas affected | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Veerapandy | Dombucherry, Veerapandi, Vayalpatty, P.C. Patty and surrounding areas | 9 AM to 2 PM |
| Mangalammedu | Chinnar, Eraiyu, Murukkankudy, Valikandapuram, Sugar Mill | 9 AM to 2 PM |
| Kalanivasal 33/11 KV | Thirumandurai, Perumathur, Vaddakkalur, Athiyur | 9 AM to 2 PM |
| Nannai 33/11 KV | Paravai, Kilumathur, Olaipady, Ealumor | 9 AM to 2 PM |
Mettupalayam: something looks wrong
Mettupalayam 33/11 KV is also on the list.
| Substation | Areas as shown in the schedule | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Mettupalayam 33/11 KV | Chinnar, Eraiyu, Murukkankudy, Valikandapuram, Sugar Mill | 9 AM to 2 PM |
Look closely and you’ll notice these are exactly the same villages listed under Mangalamedu. It looks like a copy-paste mistake in the schedule, because those places don’t belong to Mettupalayam. So if you live in or around Mettupalayam town, you can’t be sure either way. Please call your local EB office tonight or early tomorrow and confirm. We’ll update this page if the correct areas come out.
A few easy things to do tonight
You can’t skip the maintenance, but a little planning makes the day easier.
- Fill the water tank tonight, especially if you’re in a long-cut area like Ramiyanahally or Pudukkottai.
- Charge your phones, power banks, torches and emergency lamps before you go to bed.
- Cook early if you use an induction stove, and keep breakfast and lunch ready.
- Don’t keep opening the fridge. A closed fridge stays cold for a few hours.
- Unplug the TV, computer and AC before 9 AM. Sometimes the voltage jumps when the power returns.
- If you work from home, save your files and keep your mobile hotspot ready.
- Tell the kids to finish homework and keep their school bags ready tonight.
Why do they do this?
Almost all of these are marked as maintenance or monthly maintenance. The EB staff use these hours to service breakers, tighten loose connections and clear tree branches that touch the lines. It’s a hassle for a few hours, but it saves us from sudden breakdowns later, especially when it rains.
One more thing. The timings are from the official TNPDCL list. Sometimes the work finishes earlier, and sometimes it runs a bit late. Only the areas named above are affected, so the next locality may have normal supply. If your area isn’t on the list and the current is still gone, call your local EB office.
If your parents, grandparents or neighbours live in any of these areas, give them a quick call tonight. Not everyone checks the news. And if you spot a mistake in the list, like the Mettupalayam one, let us know. We’ll post the next dates as soon as they’re out.
