Tuesday morning, offices and schools are open, and the day is already planned. But before you leave the house tomorrow, check this list. TNPDCL has announced planned power cuts for 6 October in 23 substation areas across Tamil Nadu.

Most of them are routine maintenance work. Seventeen substations get their power back by 2 PM, one by 3 PM, and five have to wait till 5 PM. Below you’ll find every region with its areas and timings, so you can find your place and plan the day without any surprises.

Timings at a glance

Power back by Number of substations Which ones
2 PM 17 Kallimadai, Kilavankattur, MGC Palayam, Karnambut, Arcot, Thiruvalam, Serkadu, Poottuthakku, Kathiyavadi, Ranipet, Sathuvachari, Sipcot-II, Minnagar, Uthangarai, Gurubarapally, Rasingapuram, Sathamangalam
3 PM 1 Uranipuram
5 PM 5 Dharmapuri, Palaiyur, Mekkirimangalam, Voimedu, Nidur

Almost everything starts at 9 AM. The one exception is Thiruvalam, which is only off from 1:05 PM to 2:00 PM.

Vellore and Ranipet side

This is the biggest group of the day, with eight substations. Most of them are village areas around Arcot and Ranipet, plus Sathuvachari in Vellore.

Substation Areas affected Timing
Karnambut 110/33-11 KV Melpadi, Mittoor, Vallimalai, Thiruvalam, Brammapuram, Pootuthakku, Kilminnal, Arapakkam, Perumugai, Sevur and surrounding areas 9 AM to 2 PM
Arcot 110/33-11 KV Uppupettai, Mupathuvetti, Lakshmipuram, Thajpura, Melakuppam, Thouppukana, Devi Nagar, Amma Nagar, Visharam, Nandiyalam, Rathanagiri and surrounding areas 9 AM to 2 PM
Thiruvalam 33/11 KV Thiruvalam, Sivananadha Nagar, R.K. Thangal, Kammarajapuram, Illayanallur, Thenpalli, Venkatapuram, Ramanathapuram, Kuppathamottur and surrounding areas 1:05 PM to 2 PM
Serkadu 33/11 KV Serkadu, Mittur, Kandipedu, Muttharasikuppam, Magimandalam, Vinnampalli, Melbodinatham, Ammavarpalli, Kaatoor, Odanthangal, Ullipudur, Thadhireddipalli and surrounding areas 9 AM to 2 PM
Poottuthakku 33 KV Melapulam, Nedumpuli, Thandalam, Poigainallur, Pillaipakkam, Jageer Thandalam, Melvenpakkam, Panapakkam and surrounding areas 9 AM to 2 PM
Kathiyavadi 33/11 KV Thazhanur, Aayilam, Aayilam Pudur, Ramanathapuram, Kilkuppam, Arunkundram, Ramapuram, Veppur, Visharam and surrounding areas 9 AM to 2 PM

Sathuvachari 110/11 KV Saidapet, CMC Colony, Rangapuram, Vallar, Kagithapatrai and surrounding areas 9 AM to 2 PM

If you live in Thiruvalam, you can relax a bit. It’s a short one, just under an hour in the early afternoon. But since the same village names show up under Karnambut too, it’s worth checking which substation feeds your street.

For Ranipet town and Sathuvachari, a few hours without current means no motor, no fan and no wet grinder. Fill the tank and finish the grinding before 9.

Hosur and Krishnagiri side

Four substations here, all for monthly maintenance, and all 9 AM to 2 PM.

Substation Areas affected Timing
Sipcot-II Phase 110/22 KV Sipcot Phase-2, Bathalapally, Kumudhepally, Wellfit Road 9 AM to 2 PM
Minnagar 110/33-11 KV Sanachandiram, Onnalvadi, Sanamavu, Thorapally, Karapaly, Kollapally, Thiruchipally, Old Temple Hudco, Alasanatham, Periyar Nagar, Barathithasan Nagar, Kumaran Nagar, Valluvar Nagar, New Bus Stand 9 AM to 2 PM
Uthangarai 110/33 KV Uthangarai, Kondampatty, Chennappanaiyakanoor, Kallur, Mottupatty, Kommampattu, Upparapatty, Samalpatty, Karapattu, Keelkuppam, Moongileri, Perumalkuppam, Venkatathampatty, Mittapally, Marampatti 9 AM to 2 PM
Gurubarapally 230/110/33-11 KV Gurubarapally, Polupally, Kuppachiparai, Veppanapally, Chinnakothur, Kakkanpuram 9 AM to 2 PM

Sipcot-II is an industrial area, so factory staff should ask their supervisor tonight about generator backup or shift changes. Five hours is a long time for a line to stay idle.

Mayiladuthurai belt, 9 AM to 5 PM

Four substations here go on for the full eight hours. This is the longest cut of the day, together with Dharmapuri.

Substation Areas affected Timing
Palaiyur 110/11 KV Kuttalam Gas Plant, Therazhandur, Vadamattam, Manthai, Palaiyur, B&G Solar, CWSS Mekkirimangalam 9 AM to 5 PM
Mekkirimangalam 33/11 KV Peravur, Keelaveli, Thiruvalangadu 9 AM to 5 PM
Voimedu 110/33/11 KV Alangadu, Kariyapattinam, Ayakaranpulam 9 AM to 5 PM
Nidur 110/33/11 KV Kanganampudur, Aruvapadi, Mozhaiyur, Nidur, Manalur 9 AM to 5 PM

If you live in any of these villages, please fill your water tank tonight and charge your phone and power bank before you sleep. Eight hours is long, and the afternoon heat without a fan is not fun, especially for kids and elders at home.

Dharmapuri, the other 5 PM cut

Substation Areas affected Timing
Dharmapuri 110/33/11 KV Mathikonpalayam, Kottai, Dharmapuri Bus Stand, Kdaiveethi, Virupatchipuram, Gundalpatti, A. Reddihalli, V.G. Palayam, Settikarai, Neelapuram, Kombai, Kuliyanoor 9 AM to 5 PM

This one covers the bus stand and the main market streets, so shops and small hotels will feel it most. If you run a business there, tell your regular customers today, and keep your inverter charged.

Coimbatore and Udumalpet side

Substation Areas affected Timing
Kallimadai 110 KV (Coimbatore city) Kamaraj Road, Balan Nagar, Sarkarai Chettiar Nagar, Hope College to Civil Aero, V.R. Puram, N.K. Palayam, Krishnapuram, Housing Unit, Singanallur, Ondipudur, G.V. Residency, Masakkalipalayam, Uppilipalayam 9 AM to 2 PM
MGC Palayam MGC Palayam, Ponnaegounder Pudur, M. Rayarpalayam, Sundamedu, Sennapasetti Pudur, Mannikampalayam, Kallipalayam, Thottiyanur (some areas), Ooraikalpalayam 9 AM to 2 PM
Kilavankattur (Elayamuthur) Kilavankattur, Eliyamuthur, Perisanampatti, Kallapuram, Selvapuram, Puchimedu, Manupatti, Komaralingam, Amaravathinagar, Govinthapuram, Amaravathi Checkpost, Pearumpallam, Thumpalapatti, Guruvappanaickanur, Aalampal 9 AM to 2 PM

The MGC Palayam cut is also for equipment maintenance, earth pit checking, and clearing trees near the lines, so it’s a more thorough job than usual.

Other areas

These three are in different parts of the state, so check your village name carefully.

Substation Areas affected Timing
Uranipuram 11 KV & 33 KV Uranipuram, Pinnaiyur 9 AM to 3 PM
Sathamangalam 110 KV Thuthur, Thirumanur, Thirumalapady, Industrial, Keelapalur 9 AM to 2 PM
Rasingapuram 110 KV Paragon, Silamalai, T.R. Puram, S.R. Puram, Soolapuram and surrounding areas 9 AM to 2 PM

A few easy things to do tonight

You can’t skip the maintenance, but a little planning makes the day easier.

  • Fill the water tank tonight, especially in the 5 PM areas like Dharmapuri and the Mayiladuthurai belt.
  • Charge your phones, power banks, torches and emergency lamps before bed.
  • Cook early if you use an induction stove, and keep lunch ready.
  • Don’t keep opening the fridge. A closed fridge stays cold for hours.
  • Unplug the TV, computer and AC before 9 AM, because the voltage sometimes jumps when the power returns.
  • If you work from home, save your files and keep your mobile hotspot ready.
  • Parents, pack the school bags and lunch boxes tonight so the morning doesn’t turn into a rush.

Why do they do this?

Almost all of these are marked maintenance or monthly maintenance. The EB staff use these hours to service breakers, tighten loose connections and clear tree branches near the lines. It’s a hassle for a few hours, but it saves us from sudden breakdowns later, especially in the rains.

The timings come from the official TNPDCL list. Sometimes the work finishes earlier, and sometimes it runs a bit late. Only the areas named above are affected, so the next locality may have normal supply. If your area isn’t on the list and the current is still gone, call your local EB office.

If your parents, grandparents or neighbours live in these areas, give them a quick call tonight. Not everyone checks the news. We’ll post the next dates as soon as they’re out.
